Introduction to Laws
As is the way with such things, there are certain laws governing the comings and goings of people in the United States. What we are focusing on, however, is the evolution of laws from the 20th, to the 21st Century. Because of changes in ideals, culture, and need, laws have been made, removed, changed, and reconfigured to match the needs of the country. Back in 1900, however, the United States was dealing with massive numbers of European and Mexican immigrants moving from their original countries.
In the early 21st Century, instead of allowing more people into the country, the United States was focusing on limiting the number of immigrants allowed into the country legally. In the wake of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, more laws were put in place restricting immigration even more, to try and lessen the possibility of terrorists entering the country. During these times, more people attempted to enter the United States illegally, due to very restrictive new laws making it difficult to enter legally.
