Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858 and died in 1919. He was governor of New York State and was the 26th president of the United States of America. In 1907 he signed the Gentleman's agreement of 1907 with Japan. It was a response to the tension between the San Franciscans and Japanese immigrants looking for work. Due to the agreement, the Japanese government would not issue passports to Japanese workers who planned to immigrate to the U.S. in search of work.
"The man who loves other countries as much as his own stands on a level with the man who loves other women as much as he loves his own wife. - Theodore Roosevelt "Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country." - Theodore Roosevelt |
